Chapter 8 › V.C.3–4 Equipment; Vehicles

Will FEMA repair or replace our damaged equipment and vehicles?

FEMA term
Equipment; vehicles (Category E)
Short answer

Yes. Repairing damaged equipment or replacing destroyed items with the same number of comparable items (similar age, condition and capacity) is eligible. If replacement costs less than repair, FEMA pays the replacement cost.

What FEMA requires

  • You may replace with different items for the same general purpose; FEMA caps the cost at comparable items.
  • If a comparable used item isn’t reasonably available or doesn’t meet national consensus standards, a new item of similar capacity is eligible.
  • Vehicles that can’t be repaired are valued with “blue book” or similar guides.

Documentation

Equipment inventories, age and condition records, repair estimates, and replacement quotes.

Watch out · Govstar practitioner advice

Keep your fleet and equipment inventory with ages and condition. It sets the comparable-item value FEMA uses.
